######################################################################### # This README file provides general information about the wind datasets available # in the Atmospheric NetCDF data archive (wind-datasets/atmos-nc-dataset) # # This archive is hosted by the SSEC at UW-Madison. # This archive is managed by NOAA/NESDIS/STAR. Team members include: # Katherine Lukens (STAR, UMD/ESSIC/CISESS) # Kevin Garrett (STAR) # Kayo Ide (UMD) # Ross N. Hoffman (STAR, UMD/ESSIC/CISESS) # David Santek (CIMSS at UW-Madison) # Brett Hoover (IMSG at NOAA/NCEP/EMC) # # For questions, please contact: Dr. Katherine Lukens at katherine.lukens@noaa.gov # # Last updated: 2022-09-12 Katherine E. To view NetCDF: Use 'ncl_filedump FILENAME' on command line to view metadata information. Use 'ncview FILENAME' on command line to view variables graphically. Glossary of select terms used in this document: DD = day {DSET} = wind dataset name (i.e., aircraft, AMV, Loon, radiosonde) {MAIN} = main data archive path MM = month YYYY = year ==================================== PATHS ==================================== Main archive {MAIN} /atmos-nc-dataset Data are found following this path structure: {MAIN}/{DSET}/YYYY/MM/DD/ For Aircraft, AMV, radiosonde, the cccompanying prepBUFR table location is: {MAIN}/{DSET} ==================================== NOTES ==================================== 1. Some files/directories for each dataset may be missing. This is normal and due to the corresponding source files being unavailable. 2. Loon: Data are reformatted into 6-h chunks centered around NOAA NWP analysis times (00,06,12,18 UTC). 3. Loon: In the original files available on Zenodo (https://zenodo.org/record/5119968#.YxuRR3bMJPY), some adjacent obs are duplicates (due to instrumentation/data processor). Loon data saved in this archive have the duplicate obs omitted. ==================================== ######################################################################### #
