The color files cover the entirety of Milwaukee, Ozaukee, and Waukesha Counties; the southern three survey townships of Washington County; and an approximately 20-square-mile area in the southeast corner of Dodge County in Southeastern Wisconsin. The color orthophoto files were compiled at one-inch-equals-200-feet (1" = 200') scale with a pixel resolution of twelve inches (12"). The image files are available in GeoTIFF or MrSID format. Each color GeoTIFF format file covers an area of 10,000 by 10,000 feet on the Wisconsin State Plane Coordinate System, South Zone, with zero overlap between images. There are a total of 385 GeoTIFF files in the data set with accompanying "world" (".tfw") files. The MrSID format files were prepared from mosaics of the GeoTIFF format files. Each color MrSID format file covers an area of one U.S. Public Land Survey System (USPLSS) township. The 36 MrSID format files contain imagery beyond the boundaries of the survey township and do overlap. The MrSID files have accompanying "world" (".sdw") files. Purpose: This data set was collected to provide an inventory of orthophoto images for a portion of the Southeastern Wisconsin Region. The orthophotography will be used by the U.S. Geological Survey for the National Map website and will be used by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission for broad regional planning purposes. The orthophoto files were reviewed by the GIS Division staff of the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission for positional accuracy by comparison of the imagery to ground survey control features (section and quarter-section corners of the U.S. Public Land Survey System) and to large-scale topographic mapping. Completeness_Report: The color digital orthophoto images in this data set cover the entirety of Milwaukee, Ozaukee, and Waukesha Counties; the southern three survey townships of Washington County; and an approximately 20-square-mile area in the southeast corner of Dodge County. This project area is approximately 1,187 square miles. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: The orthophoto images in this data set were prepared to meet National Map Accuracy Standards for one-inch-equals-200-feet scale (1:2400 scale) mapping. The resolution of each pixel in the files is twelve inches (12") on the ground. Therefore, ninety percent or more of all well-defined planimetric features visible in the orthophoto files are within approximately eight feet (8') of their true position on the ground. "Seventeen (17) QC points were used in the ortho rectification process. All of the QC points were at well-defined locations and used in the aerotriangulation solution. The locations of the 17 QC ground points were compared to their positions on the rectified ortho images. The resulting X and Y residuals were used to calculate the NSSDA horizontal accuracy at the 95% confidence level in feet." {{ preceding citation from metadata prepared by project contractor Aero-Metric, Inc. }} Quantitative_Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Assessment: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Value: 2.5861 {{ preceding citation from metadata prepared by project contractor Aero-Metric, Inc. }} Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Explanation: "Federal Geographic Data Committee, 1998, Geospatial Positioning Accuracy Standard, Part 3, National Standard for Spatial Data Accuracy, FGDC-STD-007.3-1998" {{ preceeding citation from metadata prepared by project contractor Aero-Metric, Inc. }} Lineage: Source_Information: Source_Citation: Citation_Information: Originator: Aero-Metric, Inc., Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Wisconsin land surveyors; various other originators Publication_Date: unknown Title: 2007 aerial photography, control survey information, legacy orthophoto elevation model files and DTM files Geospatial_Data_Presentation_Form: digital aerial photography, control survey documents, vector digital data Publication_Information: Publication_Place: Waukesha, Wisconsin, and other locations Publisher: various publishers Source_Scale_Denominator: 1200, 2400 Type_of_Source_Media: digital aerial photography, horizontal and vertical control survey information in digital and hardcopy format, digital orthophoto elevation model and digital terrain model files Source_Time_Period_of_Content: Time_Period_Information: Single_Date/Time: Calendar_Date: unknown Source_Currentness_Reference: ground condition at the time of aerial photography (April 20 and 21, 2007) Source_Citation_Abbreviation: none Source_Contribution: The orthophoto files were prepared from aerial photography using digital orthophoto elevation model files and control survey information. Process_Step: Process_Description: This data set was prepared from aerial photography taken in April 2007. The aerial photography was collected using a Digital Mapping Camera from a nominal flight elevation of 10,000 feet. The images were processed with the use of orthophoto elevation model files to create digital orthophoto files in GeoTIFF format. The GeoTIFF files were reviewed by the GIS Division staff of the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC) for content, appearance, areal coverage, positional accuracy, and file parameters. SEWRPC staff then used the GeoTIFF files to prepare the MrSID format files. "Approximately fourteen hundred digital images were aerotriangulated to support digital ortho image production for the following five Wisconsin counties: Ozaukee, Dodge, Washington, Waukesha, and Milwaukee. Airborne GPS data was provided by AERO-METRIC, Inc. The project was referenced to the North American Datum of 1927 (NAD27), state plane Wisconsin south coordinate system horizontally and to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29) vertically. Units were in feet." "The images, ABGPS data, ground checkpoint data, and camera calibration data were used as inputs to the Zeiss/Intergraph ImageStation Automatic Triangulation (ISAT) softcopy program. ISAT correlated image points and aerotriangulated the block of images to create exposure station exterior orientations. Atmospheric refraction, and earth curvature were taken in to account during the aerotriangulation process. Seventeen ground checkpoints were manually measured on the imagery. These ground checkpoints were included in the aerotriangulation adjustment as unconstrained points for absolute ground location verification." "The scale of the aerial IMAGEs was 1 inch = 2117 feet. An Intergraph Z/I Imaging DMC camera was used to aquire color aerial photography with 70% front overlap on 4/20/2007 and 4/21/2007." "Rectification was done using the aerotriangulation data, scans, and DEM. These rectified images were used to draw seamlines. The images were then dodged. The dodged rectified images were mosaicked, balanced, and cut into final image sheets. The final sheets were viewed and artifacts were removed as well as other edits performed." {{ preceding citation from metadata prepared by project contractor Aero-Metric, Inc. }} Process_Date: 200708 Process_Contact: Contact_Information: Contact_Organization_Primary: Contact_Organization: Aero-Metric, Inc.
