MODIS Direct Broadcast Atmospheric Profiles Output Product Description ------------------------------------------- The Direct Broadcast output file differs from the operational MOD07 output file in that: 1) It is a 4 byte float binary flat file instead of HDF. All parameters (bands) are of type 4 byte float. 2) There are two .img and two .hdr files representing the 83 operational MOD07 HDF SDS's listed below. 3) There are no geolocation or solar and viewing geometry parameters included as part of the Direct Broadcast product. 4) The output product consists of 83 band interleaved parameters instead of individual HDF file SDS's. 5) The output product does not include several operational MOD07 SDS's. These are: Cloud_Mask Processing_Flag Tropopause_Height Guess_Temperature_Profile Guess_Moisture_Profile Quality_Assurance_Infrared 6) There is no quality assurance array or file included with this delivery. In opertional processing, the quality is always set to good if a retrieval was performed. The MOD07 original direct broadcast release correspons to the MOD07 operational version 3.1.0 delivered to the DAAC in May 2002. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The atmospheric profiles output product consists of a separate .img file in flat binary format, and accompanying header file. The mod07.img file is a 83 float band interleaved product at 5x5 1km pixel resolution. Please see a list of these bands below. The bands correspond to the DAAC Production HDF MOD07 product SDS's. The test output file that you create from the input test data sets contains the nominal MODIS swath size 270 (1354/5 elements) and 408 lines (204 scans/5). Therefore, the product mod07.img file is 270 elements, by 83 bands (parameters), by 408 lines. In FORTRAN, it would be read as profiles(270,83,408). This would be reversed in C - profiles(408,83,270). ** Note: There is a Water_Vapor and a Water_Vapor_Direct array. Water_Vapor is calculated by integrating the vertical water vapor profile. Water_Vapor_Direct is a statistical experimental retrieval.
