ABI Bands as of March 2, 2005 The 16 bands are set as defined in the PoRD. The PoRD can be found on the web on the ABI documentation page: http://goespoes.gsfc.nasa.gov/abihome.htm - this readme file was created March 2, 2005 and the most recent version of the PORD is dated May 3, 2004 and DOES NOT contain the latest bandwidth information. We know these bandwidths are going to change because of information from Tim Schmit. The following bands were changed from the last time this was done (23Jan2004): Band 3 FROM 0.84-0.88 (0.86) TO 0.846-0.885 (0.865) Band 4 FROM 1.365-1.395 (1.38) TO 1.371-1.386 (1.378) Band 6 FROM 2.235-2.285 (2.26) TO 2.225-2.275 (2.25) The spectral response functions are named for a "Gaussian Boxcar Hybrid" function. They are created using code from Mike Griffin at MIT Lincoln Labs. The curve is gaussian, forced to go through the 50% points (lower and upper wavelengths) and the top of the curve is flattened out like a boxcar function, hence the name. v1 stands for version 1 (the current version of that algorithm on February 18, 2004 is the same as that of October 15, 2003). Channel numbers are not officially stated in the PoRD, but CIMSS has assumed a numbering convention for ease of use in software; the bands are numbered by increasing central wavelength (same convention as used on the current GOES series of imagers, but opposite the current sounder). 50% 50% Band Lower Upper Center Filename No Waveln Waveln Waveln 01 0.45 0.49 0.47 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH01.TXT 02 0.59 0.69 0.64 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH02.TXT 03 0.846 0.885 0.865 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH03.TXT 04 1.371 1.386 1.378 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH04.TXT 05 1.58 1.64 1.61 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH05.TXT 06 2.225 2.275 2.25 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH06.TXT 07 3.8 4.0 3.9 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH07.TXT 08 5.77 6.6 6.19 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH08.TXT 09 6.75 7.15 6.95 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH09.TXT 10 7.24 7.44 7.34 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH10.TXT 11 8.3 8.7 8.5 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH11.TXT 12 9.42 9.8 9.61 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH12.TXT 13 10.1 10.6 10.35 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH13.TXT 14 10.8 11.6 11.2 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH14.TXT 15 11.8 12.8 12.3 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH15.TXT 16 13.0 13.6 13.3 ABI16_GBHv1_02Mar2005_SRF_CH16.TXT The files contain 2 columns.
