The Environmental Remote Sensing Center began using satellite imagery to identify the location and extent of tornado damage in 2001 following the Siren Tornado of June 18, 2001. Before and after imagery can be compared statistically to produce "change" maps of damage. On August 18, 2005 nearly two dozen tornadoes ripped through southwest and south central Wisconsin. ERSC acquired imagery and identified the "swaths" or "paths" of three of the more destructive tornadoes. This shapefile represents the estimated paths of destruction of the Siren tornado and the three Aug 18, 2005 tornadoes. Other may follow as the analysis continues or as other events occur. This data layer is intended to help emergency management personnel, researchers and the general public to identify the location of tornado paths in their GIS applications.
